A/V Project Script

Intro:

Hello and welcome to episode one of talking with Abby. For this episode, we will be talking about the U-17 Women’s World cup and the upcoming Women’s World cup in 2023.

U-17 Women’s:

The U-17 women’s team had been playing in their world cup which had started on October 11th. The lineup for our US women was India, Brazil, Morocco and Nigeria.

All of these teams seemed to have a fair fighting chance, but India had a struggle on October 11th. During this game, the US had 30 shots on goal with only 14 of them being on target. They had 79% of the possession and had a major number of 641 passes. This is all incredible compared to India’s 2 shots, 21% possession and 176 passes. Just from these stats we can tell that our U-17 girls completely dominated the game with beautiful passing and even better goals from corners, penalties and shots out of the box. This was definitely just a one sided game with a score of 8-0.

On October 14th, the US had a tough time fighting their way against Brazil. Both teams came out wanting to win to get ahead on the scoreboard. The US had beaten Brazil there with a goal by Kiorpes at 33 minutes. Brazil came back strong and followed with a goal by Chaves Firmino 4 minutes later. The rest of the game was a tough fight of both teams going back and forth trying to get another goal to break the tie. At the end of the game, the US had 29 shots on goal with only 7 being on target. They had 59% of the possession and had 458 total passes. While Brazil had 14 shots on goal with only 3 being on target. They had 41% of the possession and had 334 total passes. Based on these stats, I believe that the US had a high chance of being able to make another goal. Once again this was a tough fight and resulted in a 1-1 tie at the end.

On October 17th, the US would face Morocco. The whole game was dominated by the US. The way that they were able to pass through gaps to get it up top and the set ups were amazing. In the first half, they had many opportunities and some just fell short and the goalie for Morocco was able to get there in time. But, in the 24th minute, there was an amazing goal scored by Kohler for the US to lead 1-0 at half. In the second half, the US came out very strong and Morocco had no clue what had hit them. After a few minutes of build ups and passing, the US had a goal scored by Smith in the 68th minute. This was soon shortly trailed by another goal from Kohler in the 73rd minute. A couple minutes later, to keep a protected lead, there was another goal scored by Smith in the 81st minute. The US had 16 shots in total with 7 of them being on target. They had 74% of the possession and had a total of 640 passes. While Morocco only had 5 shots on goal with only 1 being on target. They had a low percentage of possession at 26% and 236 total passes. With these stats, the US dominated the game with a 4-0 final score.

On October 21st, the US would face Nigeria in the first quarter final game. This was a very important game for the US women to win. It was their ticket into the semi-finals. This was a tough game for both sides even though the US had most of the possession. In the middle of the first half, the US made a mistake and fouled Nigeria in their 18 box. Nigeria then had a penalty which granted them the first goal of the game by Edafe at the 26th minute. The US had a tough time, but a few minutes before the half ended, Villarreal got a goal at the 40th minute sealing a 1-1 halftime score. In the second half, there was shot after shot from both teams as they battled for possession. But sadly no one had scored resulting in a 1-1 tie. Now, in the quarter finals, only one team is allowed through to the semi-finals. The only way to get this result is to have the teams compete in a penalty shoot out. The US had unfortunately lost in the shootout 4-3 and had been dropped out of the world cup. At the end of the game, the US had 27 shots on goal with only 3 being on target. They had 59% of the possession and 395 total passes. Nigeria had 8 shots on goal with only 2 being on target. They had 41% of the possession and 288 total passes. With this result, Nigeria had moved on to the semi-finals.

With how well the U-17 team had done, they could really have made it further. But in other words, they did the best that they could and hopefully next time, they will be able to make it farther.
